News (and a tad opinion): Most Purchased Vinyls, Hackett Tour, Sia and Eminem ‘controversy’

The Official Charts company has released the UK list for most bought vinyl in the last 20 years.

  • 20. The Beatles – Anthology 1 (1995)
  • 19. DJ Shadow – Endtroducing (1999)
  • 18. Oasis – Be Here Now (1997)
  • 17. Pulp – Different Class (1995)
  • 16. Neil Young – Harvest (1972)
  • 15. The Prodigy – Music For The Jilted Generation (1994)
  • 14. Nirvana – MTV Unplugged In New York (1994)
  • 13. Blur – Parklife (1994)
  • 12. The Stone Roses – Second Coming (1994)
  • 11. Paul Weller – Stanley Road (1995)
  • 10. The Prodigy – Fat Of The Land (1997)
  • 9. Queen – Made in Heaven (1995)
  • 8. Massive Attack vs. Mad Professor – Protection/No Protection (1995)
  • 7. The Beatles – Live at the BBC (1994)
  • 6. Leftfield – Leftism (1994)
  • 5. Radiohead – The King of Limbs (2011)
  • 4. Travis – The Invisible Band (2001)
  • 3. Portishead – Dummy (1994)
  • 2. Oasis – Definitely Maybe (1994)
  • 1. Oasis – What’s the Story, Morning Glory? (1995)

Some interesting things to note is that the most recent is Radiohead’s The King of Limbs, and there are 3 Oasis albums listed as well. The majority of the purchases are between 1994 and 1995. So unfortunately despite the rise in vinyl as a format it is still not quite pulling in the numbers, however it definitely looks promising. Also, the Neil Young inclusion of Harvest is most likely the rerelease in 2009.

Miley Cyrus did something completely un-shocking, not edgy and obviously staged by management. The ‘singer’ still claims that she is a free person. And the press will lap it up until she becomes a faint sneeze on the fabric of celebrity, like so many before her and so many to come.

In other ‘controversial’ news, Eminem has been ‘caught’ being a homophobe by using the word ‘faggot’ in his new album. Of course, he insists he isn’t, as he probably isn’t. He apologised for the meaning associated with homosexual. Sia also worked on the album (track ‘Beautiful Pain’) has spoken out in defence so she would never have worked with someone she thought to be a homophobe. As a gesture to the LGBT community proceeds from the song will be donated to the Los Angeles LGBT centre. Of course, Eminem was talking about a faggot of sticks that he and his daughter like to collect.
