Steve Hackett Documentary Announced

After the much debated Sum Of The Parts Documentary last year where Steve and his fans felt his contribution to the band was omitted to a side note, it is great to hear that a thorough documentary on Steve is coming out soon.

Filmed over a series of years Steve Hackett – The Man the Music with interviews from Hackett, his wife, his band, and his peers including Steven Wilson and Chris Squire. Steve also explores some of the studio sessions and his playing technique as part of a masterclass.

One of the bonus features is an extended interview with Chris Squire shortly before his death this year. Squire and Hackett released the great release Squackett which combined dynamic song writing with Hackett’s signature guitar sound and Squire’s bass complexities.

With a running time of over 2 hours, the documentary appears to be a thorough document of Steve’s past and current life. Spanning from Genesis, to GTR, and his solo career it promises to be an excellent production. The release also coincides with the Charisma Hackett collection, which features new surround sound mixes of some of Steve’s early albums by Steven Wilson.

You can pre order the documentary from Amazon or the distributor for release on the 7th September.

Side note, we actually met up with Steve after a show in 2010 where they filmed some interviews as part of the project.

Congratulations on your documentary, Steve! It’s well-deserved, especially since so much of your material from Genesis: Sum Of the Parts was left on the cutting-room floor. I’m really looking forward to seeing it. Will it be available via iTunes download, by any chance?
