Bert Jansch dies at 67 and Marv Tarplin dies at 70

Pentangle founding member Bert Jansch and Miracles guitarist Marv Tarplin have both died over the last few days.

Bert Jansch founded Pentangle with John Renbourne. His folk, jazz and blues playing has influenced many other artists such as Paul Simon and Neil Young. He passed away on Wednesday 5th October after suffering from cancer.

Marv Tarplin, who co wrote some of the Miracles biggest tracks including died on the 30th of September. His playing and composition during the Motown epoch lead to him working with Smokey Robinson after leaving the Miracles as well as other Motown artists such as Marvin Gaye.

I personally remember first hearing of a Pentagle a few years ago on a collection of BBC archive footage of bands on BBC 4.

Here are some videos of them in their essence.

Here’s that BBC video where I first saw Pentangle.
